An Interactive Whiteboard is a large display of a board that is used to show some content, images or videos with the help of projector. In other words IWB is a device that connected to a digital projector and images may be displayed or projected on the interactive whiteboard surface. It is also known as markerboard, dry-erase board, wipe board, dry-wipe board, pen-board etc. It was firstly designed and manufactured for official uses.
IWBs may use one of several types of sensing technology to track interaction on the screen surface: electromagnetic, infrared optical, resistive, laser, ultra-sonic, and camera-based. In other case: it interacts with online shared annotation and drawing environments such as interactive vector based graphical websites.
Interactive whiteboards is also used metaphorically to refer to features of computer software applications that simulate whiteboards. In schools and colleges they are in trend because it promotes collaboration among students and group discussion and participation.
